Major fire in Fatasil area

GUWAHATI, March 29 - More than 30 bamboo huts were completely gutted when a major fire broke out in the Bimala Nagar locality under Fatasil Ambari Police Station here around 11 this morning.

Although no injury of serious nature was reported, property worth a sizeable amount got completely damaged, official sources said. The fire broke out following the burst of a cooking gas cylinder.

�As the lanes leading to the spot are very narrow, it took some time for the fire tenders to reach out to the spot from the fire originated and douse the fire,� sources pointed out.

�A number of cooking gas cylinders got burst in the process although the exact number could not be ascertained,� sources said, adding that as many as 16 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to take control of the situation.

The Kamrup (Metro) district administration has ordered an inquiry to be done by the Circle Officer, Guwahati to ascertain the cause of the fire and submit the report.
