Major crackdown against drug peddlers in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, May 13 - In a major crackdown against drug peddlers, the Lower Dibang Valley District Police in Arunachal Pradesh today arrested nine persons, including a woman. Three of them are State Government employees, including two police personnel. About 17.5 gram cocaine was also seized during the raids in Roing area in the district.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Roing police conducted a raid in Cheta-II village, Roing during which they apprehended three alleged accused persons, identified as Monu Sonowal, constable of Roing PS, Mikhail Mito, constable of SP�s office, Kurung Kumey district and the house owner Yubi Mega. Four packets of cocaine weighing 14.50 grams were also seized from their possession.

During their grilling, they revealed that they had gone to Changlang and bought the drugs from a Chakma person on May 11 last. They also revealed the names of other peddlers.

Another raid was instantly conducted at Mayu-II, Roing. The police found Atoga Pulu and his mother Samine Mega packing drugs for sale. A plastic packet containing cocaine weighing three grams, two digital weighing machines and cash amounting to Rs 34,300 were recovered and seized from their possession.

The subsequent interrogation of the arrested persons led to the arrest of other drug peddlers, identified as Sokho Mendo, Biju Mega, Shiv Linggi and Ege Miso, who is stated to be a Govt employee.

A police case has been registered at Roing PS and further investigations launched.

District SP Sanjay Kr Sain said that many complaints had been received about the involvement of Police personnel in drug peddling in the district. He informed that both the police personnel involved in drug peddling have been placed under immediate suspension and are in custody.
