Maijan orthodox tea sets record

GUWAHATI, July 31 - A day after Gold Special tea of Manohari Tea Estate was sold for Rs 50,000 a kg, the Maijan Orthodox Golden Tea broke the record, fetching Rs 70,501 � the highest price for tea ever at any auction.

The Dibrugarh-based garden is owned by Assam Company India Limited, the oldest tea company in the world, incorporated by the Royal charter of the British Empire in the year 1839.

The company was recently taken over by Abu Dhabi based billionaire businessman Dr BR Shetty.

The Orthodox Golden Tea produced during second flush are an artisanal produce. This rare and specially hand crafted tea is from select clonal variety tea plants.

Rich in aroma and briskness, Maijan Golden Tea offer a unique and exotic experience, the company claimed, adding that the unique liquor character of the tea comes from the original tea plants planted over a century ago.
