GUWAHATI, Dec 28 - The Court of Special Judge, Assam today convicted Dhemaji Divisional Forest Officer Mahat Chandra Talukdar on graft charges. Talukdar was arrested by the Anti-Corruption and Vigilance Wing sleuths while accepting bribe at his office on June 13, 2016.
The court sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment under Sections 7 and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, besides slapping him with a fine of Rs 45 lakh. Talukdar will have to undergo imprisonment for another one year if he fails to pay the fine.
Investigators had recovered Rs 2.23 crore in cash from the house and office owned by Talukdar during the course of investigation.
