GUWAHATI, July 4 � Despite enjoying distinct territorial supremacy, Navajyoti Club went down to Maharana Athletic Club 2-4 in penalty shot-out in today�s match of the NN Bhatta Memorial Football Championship.
In a lacklustre match at the Nehru Stadium here today, no team could break the deadlock during the regulation 90 minutes.
Navajyoti attackers Ishak Sangma and veteran Prasanta Bharali came close to scoring on a couple of occasions but could not hit the target due to ill directed shots.
For Maharana, Zyangser Basumatary and captain Rupa Boro tried to make break thorough into the opponent striking zone but failed.
In the tie-breaker, Ringma Basumatary, Swarang Basumatary, Rupa Boro and Rameswar Boro scored. But for Navajyoti, Bappi Rahang and Akanta Boro failed to beat Maharana custodian Dadhiram Roy in the first two opportunities. Although Prakash Roy and JC Boro managed to hit the target from third and fourth shots it was too late.
