By Correspondent

JAGIROAD, Aug 12 - The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) organised a satirtha sanmilan at Jagi Bhakatgaon under Mayong Circle yesterday to discuss various issues. Altogether 500 delegates from 28 committees under the constituency participated in the sanmilan.

District committee president Bubul Das presided over the sanmilan in which former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, general secretary Dr Kamala Kalita and Manoj Saikia, among others also spoke on various subjects. In his speech, Mahanta gave a brief sketch on the activities of the regional party since its inception.

Laying stress on regionalism, Mahanta appealed to the members to gear up the party activities. The AGP has been closely associated with the people of the State since its inception and hence our duty is to highlight the problems of the State, he said. Saying that the relevance of regionalism still persist despite upsurge of other political parties, he appealed to the people to extend all possible cooperation to the AGP. We will not allow anything which is against the interest of the State be it Citizenship Bill or any foreigners issue, he reiterated. On the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, the former Chief Minister urged the people to fight unitedly. The Bill will destroy the identity of the indigenous people, so we will oppose it till our last drop of blood, he claimed.

He further appealed to the members, workers and supporters to strengthen the party for the ensuing Panchayat election.
