Magnanimity of Siu-Ka-Pha recalled

TINSUKIA, Dec 2 - Along with the rest of the State, Asom Divas was observed here today.

Siu-Ka-Pha, the legendary founder of the Ahom dynasty in Assam and creator of Bor Asom was remembered on Asom Divas under the aegis of the Tinsukia district committee of All Tai Ahom Students� Union (ATASU) at the Tai Sanskriti Sorsa Kendra at Sripuria here today with a day-long programme. Siu-Ka-Pha�s magnanimity and foresight was discussed at length by the speakers.

The programme started with Bansee Puja performed with traditional rituals. The insigne of the Sorsa Kendra was hoisted by the president of the Kendra Manoj Bora while the ATASU flag was unfurled by Milan Buragohain, president of the students� body.

Maidam Tarpan was performed by Ajit Gogoi, while the foundation of a statue to be installed at the Kendra was laid by Additional Deputy Commissioner Pradip Kumar Gogoi. An open session organised on the occasion was presided over by Manoj Bora and addressed by several dignitaries.

The programme also included competitions on drawing, quiz etc.

In Sonari: Asom Divas was observed here centrally by Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) where the magnanimity of Siu-Ka-Pha was widely discussed, an ANN Service report stated.

An open meeting was held today at the BPBM HS School playground. Addressing the gathering as distinguished guest, Adip Kumar Phukan described Siu-Ka-Pha as a legendary leader who cemented the vanquished through pragmatic measures.

According to him, the present society of Assam stands united only due to the foresightedness of Swargadeo Siu-Ka-Pha, who established the Ahom kingdom by assimilating all the races and tribes of Assam.

All Assam Students� Union (AASU) general secretary Lurinjyoty Gogoi, human rights activist Lachit Bordoloi and others also addressed the meeting which was presided over by Putul Dutta, president of AJYCP.

A cultural procession was taken out throughout the town to mark the occasion and inaugurated by Vivekananda Phukon, Deputy Commissioner of Charaideo district.

Earlier, the three-day long Asom Divas programme started on Friday last with hoisting of the Parishad�s flag by Putul Dutta. Palash Changmai, general secretary of AJYCP paid floral tributes to the martyrs.
