Madrassa students ransack Hailakandi DC Office

HAILAKANDI, Jan 10 � A large number of madrassa students this noon ransacked the office of the Deputy Commissioner in Hailakandi, including the chambers of DC and ADC. Two employees of DC Office were also injured in the incident.

The madrassa students also snatched away some files of the office.

After the incident, the employees, under the banner of Sadou Asom Zilla Parishad Prashashan Karmachari Santha of the office, gathered and demanded adequate security in the office and also handed over a written ultimatum to the incharge Deputy Commissioner demanding immediate arrest of the persons behind the incident. They stopped work immediately for an indefinite period after giving the ultimatum. The Deputy Commissioner incharge HA Laskar assured the employees that the matter has been taken up at the appropriate level.

The madrassa students, under the banner of All Assam Madrassa Students� Union (AAMSU), today entered the DC Office on the plea of submitting a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner regarding the abduction of a madrassa student. They suddenly turned violent and started to ransack the office.

It may be mentioned here that some unidentified persons kidnapped a madrassa student last week in Hailakandi and demanded a ransom of Rs 7 lakh.
