Madhavdev Award for LN Bora

GUWAHATI, July 16 � Noted litterateur and former president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha Dr Lakshminandan Bora, presently Editor of the monthly magazine Gariyoshi, has been selected for the Madhavdev Award that carries Rs 2 lakh and a citation.

Dr Bora has won many prestigious awards earlier for his contribution to literature, but talking to The Assam Tribune he said that he was extremely pleased this time as the honour would encourage him to continue his mission to popularize the Vaishnavite saints of the State who build the bridge of national integration.

Dr Bora has selected this genre of novel writing to popularize the Vaishnavite saints and has four novels capturing the life and contribution of Sankardeva, Madhavdev, Gopal Dev and Mathuradas Burhaata. �I have captured the religious teachers of 15th and 16th century Assam in my novels knowing that the teachings of the Vaishnavite saints would appeal to the young generation if written in novel form,� said Dr Bora.

Dr Bora�a novel Sehi Gunanidhi is based on the complete life of Madhavdev whom he has depicted as a man of flesh and blood, touching on the eventful life of the saint highlighting the wisdom of the saint as well as his conflicts.

He acknowledged that for this work he had to undertake intensive research spanning over a period of two years. He describes this novel as one of his technically perfect work.

Hitting the stands in 1997 and emerging as a best seller, this novel had to be published in three editions because of its immense popularity.
