By Correspondent

JORHAT, June 12 Noted lyricist Nagen Bora passed away on Tuesday evening due to some internal infections at the age of 66. Though he was admitted into a private hospital here after an accident, he was later shifted to Jorhat Mission Hospital where he breathed his last.

Boras demise has caused a bigger loss in the realm of Assamese literature. A lyricist like Nagenda is rare in the State who composed more than 3,000 songs in Assamese, said Debajit Bora, an executive member of Asam Sahitya Sabha. It is a matter of sadness that he breathed his last without getting any royal patronage.

Bora was honoured with Geet Ratna title by Sanskritik Mahasabha. Most of his songs expressed his deep patriotism and bigger sense of regional importance. Among them, Akou jodi jabo lage Saraighatoloi a compilation of patriotic songs sensitized all classes of citizens in the State during 1980s and 1990s.
