Luhit Khaboli area of Lakhimpur dist yet to be electrified

By A Correspondent

MAJULI, Dec 12 - For generations, the people of Luhit Khaboli, situated at the border of this island district, have remain bereft of electricity and no Government electricity scheme has touched this area yet.

This big area consists of 35 villages and 31,000 people. However, this large number of people have to face problems at every step of their day-to-day lives as the area has remained untouched by any kind of development including medical, education and transportation facilities.

When the entire nation is about to touch the pinnacle of technological success, this area almost lives in a primitive world.

For the people of this area of Lakhimpur district, who are mainly dependent on agriculture, Lakhimpur or Dispur is far away and to inform the MLA of the area or the administration about their problems, people have to spend an entire day.

The electricity to Majuli district is supplied from Lakhimpur district over this area, but even after 70 years of Independence, homes of this area have not been electrified.

In fact, the pathetic state of this area makes a mockery of Modis dream of a Digital India.

The Electricity department had put up some electricity posts two years back in this area. But since the wirings have not been laid so far, the area has been deprived of electricity. Interestingly, the villagers today perform puja in front of these electricity posts and plead to the Almighty to put some sense into the mind of the authority concerned. Besides, the elderly residents of this area, who had spent a miserable life without power supply, also propitiate the Lord to supply electricity so that the younger generation can have a better life.
