JORABAT, Aug 14 - Following the incident of suspected rape and murder of a 20-year-old girl at Jorabat, the locals along with the family members of the deceased have demanded a fast-track probe into the incident.
The body of the girl was found in a drain in a half-naked condition at 10th Mile near the NRL petrol pump, on the Meghalaya side.
The mother of the victim alleged that the girl was raped before her murder, and urged the Assam Police to investigate the case jointly with the Meghalaya Police to speed-up the probe.
A case has been registered with the Khanapara Police Station in this regard. The Khanapara OC said the investigation is on and the reason behind the death will be known soon.
The body of the victim was cremated this evening at Jorabat.
