LN Singh 3rd Lt Gen from NE

GUWAHATI, Sept 9 - Laiphrakam Nishikanta Singh, VSM (Bar) was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General with effect from September 7, 2015.

Singh is the third Lieutenant General from the North East. Two other serving Lieutenant Generals, PK Bharali and Himalaya Singh (both from Sainik School, Goalpara), are now holding important positions in New Delhi and Mhow (Madhya Pradesh) respectively.

According to Brigadier (retd) Ranjit Barthakur, Lieutenant General LN Singh, hailing from Imphal in Manipur, is an aluminous of the National Defence Academy, Pune and was commissioned from Indian Military Academy in 1978. He has attended all important Army courses, including Higher Command and National Defence College. Singh was twice awarded Vishist Seva Medal and Commendation Card on three occasions for his devotion to duty. Presently, he is serving as a Commandant of Military Training Establishment at Pune, Maharashtra.

It is pertinent to mention that two former Air Force officers � Air Marshal AK Gogoi and Air Marshal PK Borbora had also reached the rank of Air Marshal in the Air Force, which is equivalent to the rank of Lieutenant General of Army, the second highest rank in the Indian Army.
