GUWAHATI, Sept 5 - The medical fraternity witnessed a rare event in the city on Thursday when surgeons from the Singapore General Hospital conducted a live surgery demonstration in Arthroscopy at the GNRC Hospitals.
The Department of Orthopaedics, GNRC Hospitals, in association with the SingHealth (Singapore General Hospital), organised the live surgical procedure. The procedure was headed by internationally acclaimed faculty Dr Denny Lie Tijauw Tjoen. He is currently working as a senior consultant in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Singapore General Hospital.
Dr Lie was assisted by a team of experts from the Department of Orthopaedics, GNRC Hospitals, comprising Dr Pranjal Mahanta, Dr Santanu Sarma, Dr Ankur Hazarika, Dr Gautam Rava, Dr Aniket and Dr Abhishek.
Arthroscopy is a procedure like laparoscopy, in which a scope or camera is inserted inside ones joint, like knee or shoulder. Various procedures can be performed by this advanced technique, like reconstruction of ligaments and repair of meniscus, etc. The advantage of this kind of surgery is that the joint need not be opened. It results in quicker recovery and reduced hospital stay, thus saving huge resources for the patients family.
More than a hundred doctors across the Northeast attended the event and discussed the subject in detail. The CME was inaugurated by Dr NC Borah, CMD, GNRC Hospitals.
Speaking on the occasion, Borah said, It will create immediate and immense interest on the subject in this part of the world. At GNRC, this is our continuous endeavour to bring the latest and advanced medical technological innovations so that we can serve the regional populous in an improved manner. We are aiming to organise more such events in the near future for the overall uplift of the healthcare scenario in this part of the country.
