Litterateur showers praise on women writers

GUWAHATI, Feb 10 � Women writers have shown excellence in the field of novel and short story writing in modern Assamese literature compared to their men-folk.

Making this observation, litterateur and former Asam Sahitya Sabha president Dr Lakshmi Nandan Bora today elaborated the one-and-a-half-century-old journey of modern Assamese literature.

Dr Bora said that a string of brilliant Assamese writers who had signalled their arrival in the pages of Assamese journals such as Jonaki, Bahi and Awahan left their legacy to be followed by the present band of writers including Phool Bora whose compilation of short stories was released today.

Dr Bora described Phool Bora as one of the most powerful Assamese story writers capable of depicting the true picture of Assamese society.

The meeting was held on the occasion of the first death anniversary of �Kavi Ratna� Abanindra Chandra Bora held under the auspices of the Guwahati Sahitya Kanan.

The meeting was presided over by Khanindra Chandra Das while Bimal Kumar Hazarika, secretary, Alochana Chakra, welcomed the guests and explained the purpose of the meeting.

Releasing a book on the life and achievements of Abanindra Chandra Bora, veteran journalist DN Chakravartty described Bora as a versatile genius who exhibited brilliance not only in the field of prose writing but also excelled as a poet and a scholarly astrologer.

Phool Bora, in her speech, narrated her experience both as a writer and as the wife of a devoted scholar.
