Literary discussion held at Doomdooma

DOOMDOOMA, Nov 22 - �The present scenario in the State doesn�t inspire writers for literary creation.� This was observed by eminent writer Punnya Saikia while inaugurating the literary discussion organised by Tinsukia Zila Sahitya Sewi Mancha (TZSSM ) at Doomdooma Press Club (DPC) recently.

The meeting was chaired by TZSSM president Sarifa Khatoon Choudhury. The first issue the bulletin of TZSSM Samayiki was inaugurated by the working president of TZSSM Atul Sharma. The bulletin was edited by publication secretary of TZSSM, Sunil Gohain. Punnya Saikia, Sarifa Khatoon Choudhury and Sarat Chandra Chiring Phukan were felicitated in the programme by TZSSM for their achievements in the field of literature and education.

Several writers across the district including a few budding ones read out their self-composed poems and short stories in the meeting. Eminent writer Horendra Nath Borthakur and writer Joykanta Gondhiya made an on-the-spot assessment of the poems and short stories.

Inu Gohain Hazarika, Rupalim Gogoi and Runumoni Dutta Bhuyan presented songs in the meeting while Abdul Rauf and Padma Chetia recited poems. Former chairman of SEBA Dhanadev Mahanta, DPC vice-president Dhiren Deka and poet Pranati Baruah spoke a few words of compliments for TZSSM.

Earlier, Atul Bordoloi, secretary of TZSSM, explained the aims and objectives of TZSSM. The programme was anchored by Sarat Chandra Chiring Phukan. More than 50 literary activists of the district including former president of Tinsukia District Sahitya Sabha Bhabani Changkakoti, former secretary Prakash Dutta, former magazine secretary Abhijit Khataniar participated in the programme which was held under the auspices of the TZSSM members of Doomdooma and Rupai Siding.
