Liquor retailers body moves HC

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Aug 16 The All Assam IMFL Retailers Association has moved the Gauhati High Court, seeking modification of the August 9 order which had directed the Excise department to close down all liquor shops and bars situated within 500 metre radius of education and religious institutions, hospitals and courts.

The association, in its petition, urged the Court to reconsider its decision as licence to a good number of liquor shops and bars were issued before the Assam Excise Rules, 2005, was amended, thereby prohibiting sale of liquor within 500 metres of religious and educational institutions.

President of the association Sushanta Roy told this reporter that the petition has been moved, hoping that the Court would amend its order to a certain extent after considering other aspects of the matter.
