Likabali-Aalo road blocked following accident

SILAPATHAR, June 12 � The Likabali-Aalo road was blocked for Assamese people last ten days following a tragic incident, when the two youths namely Bomar Riba and Mari Doye of Arunachal Pradesh were run over by a truck of Assam near Ego, Dori Circle under West Siang district of AP on June 2 at 10.30 pm.

According to the Becharkari Gari Chalak Santha, Dhemaji district committee, the truck bearing AS-22/7801 was returning from Boleng to Silapathar when two youths forcefully stopped the truck and demanded the driver, Anil Sahu a sum of Rs 2000. When the driver did not fulfil their demand, they hit the driver with a beer bottle and injured him critically.

When the driver left the place, the youths again over took the truck and suddenly stopped their motorcycle in front of the truck. As the truck was climbing down the slope, the driver could not stop the vehicle and hit the youths. The youths were killed in the accident. Later, the driver surrendered himself before the police at Likabali.

In this regard, the Becharkari Gari Chalak Santha organised a meeting at Silapathar Hanuman Gadi HS on June 11. The meeting decided to hold joint meeting with representatives of government, truck owners, West Siang District Public Carrier�s Union, Becharkari Gari Chalak Santha and victims� family to sort out a way to solve the problem. The meeting also resolved to form a co-ordination committee for discussing with the concerned authorities.

The meeting also expressed that the drivers of Assam has been threatened on the Likabali-Aalo road after the incident. So, the Becharkari Gari Chalak Santha will be compelled to undertake economic blockade against the state of Arunachal Pradesh, if such incidents recurr against the driver.

On the other hand, 12-Dari Anchal Committee and local organisations of Arunachal Pradesh observed 48 hours Chakka Bandh for stopping the entry of commercial trucks within administrative jurisdiction of Dari Circle from June 9 to 10.

The committee demanded a written assurances from the truck owners and government along with all concern truck unions for adequate and proper justice to the victims� family, which can be finalised in local Kebang system. The accused driver should be transferred from Likabali PS to Basar PS, they demanded. Bommar Riba, a person of Dari GPMS and Mari Doye, a student of CI-X were killed in the tragic accident.

The Dari Anchal Samity and local committee of AP also decided that if the administration fail to fulfil its charter of demands within the stipulated time, then they will launch indefinite Chakka Bandh by stopping the entry of commercial trucks within the administration Dari Circle.

Body recovered: An unidentified body (40) was recovered at Akajan Pathar near NH-52 under Silapathar PS on June 12. The body was seen lying in the cultivation field.

Silapathar Police who recovered the body, suspected that the person was murdered. The person is yet to be identified.
