Lifetime award to Fr Busolin

SHILLONG, Jan 27 � Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul M Sangma has conferred a special award for lifetime service to Reverend Father Battista Busolin in honour of his selfless service to the people of the region, stated a press release.

It may be mentioned here that Reverend Father Battista Busolin was born on January 16, 1922, in Padua, Italy. He set his foot on Garo Hills in 1950 and has since devoted his life to endless and untiring service of the people of the region.

The Chief Minister�s citation stated that 94-year-old �Reverend Father Battista Busolin, SDB � is a patron, friend and guide of the people of Garo Hills and has selflessly dedicated 65 years of his life to the people of Garo Hills.

�Don Bosco College, Tura, Don Bosco BEd College, Don Bosco College Higher Secondary Section, the College Hostel are all monuments of his vision and commitment to the development of Garo Hills. He has also set up numerous schools and dispensaries in Rengjeng, Garobadha, Bagmara and in several villages of Garo Hills.

�He has brought hope into the lives of a million people, (and) has educated over 20,000 students, many of whom are now holding responsible positions in the society.

�Fr Busolin exudes happiness and enjoys good health even at the age of 94 and the many people who come to meet him daily are inspired by his positive mindset and relentless service, and generosity. He continues to bring life, light and happiness to the thousands of Garos who come to seek consolation and strength from him. He continues to live among the Garos whom he calls �my beloved people�, giving everyone a shining example of selfless service and sacrifice.

�In honour of his selfless service to the people of the region, I am pleased to confer the special award for lifetime service to Reverend Father Battista Busolin,� the citation concluded.
