Level crossing demanded at Baihata

By Correspondent

BAIHATA CHARIALI, July 20 Due to unmaned railway level crossings, a number of accidents occur in the State every year. But the Indian Railway authorities have not taken any notable step to mitigate the problem, in the interest of the general people, the Baihata Chariali-based Deuduar-Tuhura Level Crossing Demand Committee alleged. The committee said that due to lack of interest from the end of the Indian Railway authorities to construct level crossings at important places, a number of accidents have occurred, killing many people.

An accident took place on the Deuduar-Tuhura Road near here recently. It may be mentioned here that due to unmaned railway level crossings, a number of accidents occurred in the same place. When one Hannan Ali and his mother died on the spot in an accident a few years back, the public of the area formed a level crossing demand committee and organised a general meeting at Deuduar to pressurise the Railway authorities to construct a level crossing. But till now, no step regarding the public demand has been taken. The level crossing demand committee also submitted memorandam to the Rangiya Rail Division office and the higher authorities of the Railway through the division to construct level crossing there or initiate suitable measures to mitigate the problem so that such accidents do not occur again, but the Railway authorities have not given heed to the problems of the public due to which the problem has persisted.

One public of the area said that though the Government has allotted a big budget for the development of the railway, but no new railway level crossing has been constructed. They rued that due to non-construction of level crossing in the thickly-populated area, the general people, including school and college-goers and office employees have been facing a lot of problems.
