By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Dec 5 - The Leprosy Case Detection Campaign (LCDC) 2017 (1st phase) will commence in the State from December 6-19 in five districts i.e., Tinsukia, Jorhat, Golaghat, Sonitpur and Cachar, a press release stated.

During this period, the trained search team will go for house-to house search activity. The Joint Director of Health Services (Leprosy), Assam has requested all people to fully cooperate with the search teams in their work.

It may be mentioned that detection of new leprosy cases has remained constant over the last few years all over India. Among the detected leprosy cases, the percentage of deformity and percentage of child cases is high, which shows that there are many hidden cases. Therefore, the Centre has suggested to conduct Leprosy Case Detection Campaign (LCDC) in Assam along with the other States to find out hidden cases and to create awareness among people.
