Leopard killed by irate villagers

HATSINGIMARI, March 5 � A leopard, which attacked and injured five persons, was killed by an irate crowd at Bamundanga village under Sukchar police station of Dhubri district today.

The leopard, which first attacked two fishermen � Nur Alam (18) and Kader Gani (22) � on a boat at around 6 am at the same village, was chased by the irate villagers along with the VDP members to the char area.

In the melee that followed, the wild feline seriously injured three more persons � Khudabux (55), Akbar Ali (50) and Nobin Seikh (38). The crowd then killed the leopard.

The villagers later handed over the dead leopard to the local police and forest officials, who reached the site after the incident.
