Legal relief for Dhakuakhana scribe

By Correspondent

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, April 12 - Naba Kumar Bharali, the Dhakuakhana correspondent of an Assamese satellite channel and photographer was given a relief by Gauhati High Court by granting him an interim bail over a case which was allegedly framed by one GP president along with a complicit police officer. Bharali, who had earlier reported a series of financial irregularities in West Dhakuakhana GP on IAY, MGNREGA, Old Age Pension by GP president Saroj Baruah, was attacked by unknown assailants on February 11 this year at night while he was returning home after covering a cultural event. He was then admitted to Dhakuakhana FRU, then North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital and finally to Gauhati Medical College for treatment. He accused Saroj Baruah, who was alleged to have enjoying the benefits of being a post master at Jaalbhari Post Office, his son-in-law Gunin Koch, a school teacher for that attack. But Bharali was accused of sexually harassing Sujata Baruah Koch, wife of Saroj Baruah and of stealing her ornaments. Since then Naba Kumar Bharali has been alleging Dhakuakhana OC Sadananda Kalita of showing bias towards him by swiftly taking actions against him instead of perusing FIR filed against Saroj and Sujata over the case.
