Ledo Sabha annual session draws large crowds

DIGBOI, Feb 2 � The 7th Special Annual Session of Asam Sahitya Sabha being held on the Ningrula Harmony Ground at Ledo drew large crowds of visitors and literary enthusiasts on the second day today.

The day began with the hoisting of the Sabha flag by president Rong Bong Terang followed by the tribute-paying ceremony led by Rev U Gunabantha Mahather, spiritual head of the Mounglang Khamti Buddhist temple. Rev Mahather prayed for peace and harmony among all the communities living in this part of the country.

The �Ramdhenu� programme was inaugurated by Deben Basumatari, Director of PPC, NE of DDK, Guwahati and was presided by Rong Bong Terang. Yesse Dorje Thongse, a distinguished litterateur, attended the session along with Kangkonese litterateur Damodar Mouz and Bengali litterateur Suchandra Bhattachajee. A total of 43 new writers took active part in the session.

In the afternoon, a special programme exclusively for the new women writers, named �Akash�, was held with Bhupen Saikia, vice-president of the Sabha as the president and Dr Shamim Akhtar as the director. Mamang Dai from Arunachal Pradesh inaugurated the programme. Dr Anuradha Sarma Pujari was the distinguished guest. Dr Chabi Gogoi introduced the event. A total of 41 women writers from various parts of the State participated in it. In the evening, a cultural programme was held in memory of late Bimal Bhattacharjee, a noted musician of the locality.
