Lecture on free software

GUWAHATI, Feb 4 � A lecturer on �Copyright v/s Community in the Age of Computer Networks� was delivered by�Richard Mathew Stallman developer of GNU/Linux at the BKB Auditorium at Gauhati University�today.

In front of a packed gathering, Stallman spoke about various issues of use of free and propitiatory software and the associated advantages and disadvantages. The world-renowned developer is on a tour to this part of the country to popularize free software.�

He was given a formal welcome to the University by the Registrar Uttam Chandra Das and was felicitated. At the end of the lecture, participants raised a number of issues related to free software and their use. On the occasion, MK Yadava, Managing Director, AMTRON was also present. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof SK Sarma, Head, Department of Computer and Information Technology, Gauhati University.
