Leaders of BJP Chah Morcha seek to quit

By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, March 10 - The leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chah Morcha in the district have threatened to quit the party to contest as Independent candidates following denial of party ticket to some of their members.

Ashok Oraon, the spokesperson of the BJP Chah Morcha said that the tea tribe population in the district has felt ignored by the party. Going by the massive vote share in the district, BJP should have given party tickets to at least two tea tribe members, he said. Ashok Oraon is a former assistant general secretary of ATTSA. He along with other leaders of ATTSA had joined BJP a few months back.

Oraon further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the mass rally of the tea garden workers held recently at Moran had assured all-round development of the tea garden workers and their dependants. But denial of tickets to the members of the tea tribes has proved that the party is not sincere at all, he said.

Only Teres Goala, former ATTSA leader was preferred for the party ticket for Duliajan LAC, among other members of the tea tribes. Ashok Oraon had sought party ticket from Moran LAC and Dr Prithambor Tanti had sought the party ticket from Tingkhong LAC. Ashok Oraon is now planning to contest as an Independent candidate from Moran LAC.
