GUWAHATI, Nov 27 - The All Assam Lawyers� Association (AALA) today condemned the recent statement made by Assam Governor PB Acharya, alleging that his statement is against the Constitutional status of a Governor.
In a statement, the lawyers� body said that in a democracy, such biased comments based on religion have no place. �Not just an eyesore for rational thinking people, the statement is against the very nature of this country and its democratic principles,� added the statement.
Pradyut Bora and Dipak Kumar Das, president and general secretary of the association, said that as the Constitutional head of a State, the Governor has certain responsibilities and obligations and his impartiality and integrity must be beyond any doubt.
Stressing the fact that Assam has been inhabited by people of different communities, tribes, religions and ethnic identities, the working president of the organisation, Rohini Kumar Das said that divisive comments tend to create discord in the society.
