Lapses in garbage collection

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 21 - Residents of Adarshapur and adjoining areas of Kahilipara road have complained that they face problems in their area during festival time as the daily process of garbage collection comes to a halt in such periods for days at a stretch.

Dhrubajyoti Sarma, a resident of the area, said, The GMC has authorised NGOs to collect garbage every day from various localities. But when some festival comes up, the NGOs stop garbage collection for as long as a week. This leads to a very bad situation with garbage piling up at many places for days together.

He said the GMC should chalk out some action plan for such periods so that the process of garbage collection can continue unhindered.

Other residents of the area also had similar complaints on the issue. The local residents have already contacted the GMC on the issue and the civic body has promised action.

On being contacted, GMC Mayor Mrigen Sarania admitted that the problem is real and complaints have been received from many localities. We will review the matter and take appropriate measures. We are committed to solving the problem, Sarania said.
