Language can foster unity: Terang

BHASAR UJJA HEMCHANDRA BARUAH KSHETRA (Dergaon), Feb 3 � �Language is the basis of nationalism and so we must try to create brotherhood among the people of the State. We should promote our language to bring peace and unity among the various peoples of the State�. This was stated by Asam Sahitya Sabha president Rong Bong Terang while delivering his speech in the first open session of the 71 st session of the Asam Sahitya Sabha held at Bhasar Ujja Hemchandra Baruah Kshetra today.

Terang also urged the gathering to do something for further development of tribal literature.

The open session was formally inaugurated by noted writer Rattan Singh. Singh through his speech, urged the Sabha to work hard for the developement of Assamese language and with that the development of brotherhood. Bangla poet Alok Ranjan Dasgupta took part as the chief guest of the open session, while ex-president Dr Nagen Saikia took part as the distinguished guest. Noted Marathi poet Satish Kaleskar and noted Malayalam story writer Poll Jakaria participated in the meeting as invited guests.

Earlier Dr Sarat Phukan, DIG of Police (Training), Dergaon flagged off the 5-km-long cultural procession in which over 1.5 lakhs people took part. In the evening, Rajen Pam and Mohan Bhaira memorial cultural nite was held which was opened by MP Kumar Dipak Das.

Tomorrow, the history sanmilan will be held in the morning.In the afternoon, the second open session will be held which will be inaugurated by noted journalist Radhikamohan Bhagawati. In the meeting Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Central minister Bijoy Krishna Handique are likely to participate as the guest of honour and invited guest.In the evening Raseswar Saikia Barbayan and Tafajjul Ali memorial cultural nite will be held which will be inaugurated by Khagen Mahanta.
