Langpih issue to dominate Meghalaya Budget Session

By Raju Das

SHILLONG, May 27 The Langpih firing incident and Meghalayas boundary dispute with Assam is likely to dominate proceedings of the re-assembled Budget Session of the Assembly beginning on Friday.

It would be an acid test for first time Chief Minister Mukul Sangma in taking on the Opposition on the sensitive Langpih issue in this session of the Assembly.

Not just Langpih, the Opposition is likely to raise issues relating to Meghalayas long-pending boundary dispute with Assam in 12 different areas.

The Budget would also come under scanner of the Opposition. Sangma also holds the finance portfolio and the States Annual Plan for 2010-11 has been fixed at Rs 2,230 crore.

Discussion on the Budget is likely to be spearheaded by Opposition leader from the NCP, Conrad Sangma. He held the finance portfolio in the erstwhile Meghalaya Progressive Alliance.
