JORABAT, July 12 - In a tragic incident, two persons were killed while another sustained injuries when a wall of a house collapsed due to a landslide following incessant rains at the 12 Mile area in Jorabat in the wee hours today.

According to police, the house owners son, identified as Simanta Das and two of his friends, namely Bilas Pradhan (19) and Mohan Ghimire (20), were sleeping inside the house when a huge chunk of land from the hill behind the house came down, breaking the wall and buried the duo on the spot. Incessant rains for the last two days have caused landslides in several areas around Jorabat, with the second incident being reported along National Highway 37 in the 10 Mile area today.

Following the landslide that occurred along the NH-37 this morning, as a precautionary measure, we have blocked the stretch of Guwahati-Shillong Road in 10 Mile and diverted the traffic to the other side, making it a two-way stretch for now, said the traffic police.
