Landless traders demand compensation

By Correspondent

BISWANATH CHARIALI, June 29 - The four laning work of the National Highway 15 is going on in full swing these days from the By-pass end of Biswanath Chariali to Gohpur. The administration has also got busy in clearing the required land for this purpose. Most of the affected people have been paid compensation. However, those small businessmen who had been running tea stalls, paan shops, grocery shops etc., have not got anything as they had no land in their names.

From Balipukhuri, Biswanath Chariali to Gohpur, there are thousands of such small shop owners who have been earning their livelihood through these small shops. As these encroached lands have already been cleared by the administration, they are now facing a lot of problems. They have no alternative way or earning source, therefore they are struggling to make ends meet.

It may be mentioned here that most of such small businessmen at various places like Baghmari, Monabari, Ratowa, Borgang, Nachbar, Michamari, Halem, Ghahigaon, Gohpur etc., are educated enemployed youths. According to information, some of them have bank loans too. Now it seems their very lives are at stake. People have urged the authorities to take necessary action to pay special compensation to these affected small businessmen.
