Lalilang songs creator Tel Pator no more

JORABAT, Sept 7 - The people of Dimoria were shocked to learn about the demise of Tel Pung Pator (85), the creator and singing maestro of the Lalilang songs. Pator died around 12:45 am at the GMCH today.

The Lalilang songs were sung by Pator near the lakes of Jalikhara, Bamoni during the fishing festival on the day of Uruka. The Lalilang are unique village folk songs sung only in Dimoria area. Though the songs consist of not so decent words, it is liked very much by the people of Dimoria region, who accept it as their identity. The Assamese dialect used in the songs is unique to the region. Locals claim that during the fishing festival on the day of Uruka, not only locals but also foreigners coming from abroad are made to dance to the beat of the Lalilang songs.

Pator had received regional awards like the Dhanjit Medhi Memorial award etc. He is also the second person in Dimoria region to get the �Silpi� pension. He was a resident of Khetri, Sonbar under Khetri PS.

Chief Advisor to Dimoria AASU unit Dibyajyoti Medhi said that the loss faced by the Dimoria region in his demise is irreparable. It was because of him that village songs of Dimoria reached the stage and were recorded in studios.

Organisations like Dimoria AASU, Dimoria Journalists� Union, Dimoria Bordholia Kristi Dol, Dimoria Karbi Students� Union and Dimoria Tribal Sangha paid their tributes to the great son of Dimoria.
