Lakshmi Puja at Moutupuri from today

BARPETA, Oct 25 - The 24th Sri Sri Lakshmi Puja will be celebrated with full religious festivity and devotion at Moutupuri near Howli in Barpeta district with a three day-long programme from October 26 to 28. This was informed by Mrinaljyoti Das, one of the secretaries of the Lakshmi Puja celebration committee.

A strong celebration committee has already been formed with Satish Das as president, Bhaben Chandra Das, Ganesh Das and Guru Prasad Das as working presidents and Mrinaljyoti Das and Sonjit Das as secretaries respectively.

As per schedule the festival will start from 5.30 pm on October 26 after fetching the idol of the Goddess Lakshmi followed by lighting of lamps by Satya Nath Das (Baishya). The worship will commence at 7.30 pm after erection of the idol on the altar. An exhibition of fireworks will be inaugurated by Satish Das, president of the celebration committee which will be followed by naam prasanga by the women folks.

Recitation of the Bhagawat will commence at 9 am on October 27. Competitions on games and sports, painting, go as you like, poetry recitation and extempore speech will be conducted that day.

An autumn evening an exceptional conglomeration to be held from 7 pm that day will be the main attraction of the festival. Late Babul Chandra Talukdar memorial solo dance competition will be held that night.

Plantation will be done at 9 am on October 28 which will be inaugurated by Prabhat Kalita. Competitions on games and sports will be continued that day. Late Gheturam Das and Jajneswari Das memorial dihanaam competition will be inaugurated at 3 pm by Prahlad Nath.

The festival will be come to an end with an open meeting to be held at 7 pm on the concluding day. Satish Das, the president of the celebration committee will preside over the meeting. Dr Mukunda Sarma, principal Vhabanipur Anchalik College, Rabindra Bhattacharya, retired professor of BH College and Nripen Pujari, retired head master will attend the function as distinguished guests. The organisers expect good response and overwhelming support and cooperation from all section of people.
