MANGALDAI, July 23 - Lakhipur (Cachar) and Udalguri districts qualified for the final round of the Sujit Narzary Memorial Inter District U-13 Football Tournament by becoming cluster champions.
The cluster matches were completed here yesterday.
In the three matches played at the Mangaldai Stadium on Sunday, Udalguri won both their matches while Lakhipur emerged winner in the remaining match.
In the first match of the day, Udalguri beat Dhemaji 7-6 via tie-breaker after the match was locked 3-3 in regulation time. In their second match, Udalguri got the better of North Lakhimpur by a solitary goal. In another match of the day, Lakhipur outclassed Tezpur 4-1 to emerge winners in the cluster IV to qualify for the final round.
In addition to Udalguri and Lakhipur, Tamulpur and Guwahati are the other two teams to qualify for the final round matches to be held in Nagaon. This was informed by Bipul Kr Sarma, football secretary of the Mangaldai Sports Association.
