Lakhimpur girls lift trophy

JORHAT, March 27 � Riding on an all round show by Jenevie Pando, Lakhimpur emerged champions in the Inter District Women Cricket Championship. In the final played here today, Lakhimpur downed Hailakandi by 26 runs. The tournament was conducted by Jorhat District Sports Association under the aegis of Assam Cricket Association.

Batting first, Lakhimpur scored 112 for seven in the 30- over match. The highlight of the Lakhimpur innings was Jenevia Pendo�s 50. In reply, Hailakandi managed to score 86 for nine in the stipulated overs. Earlier, in the semifinals, Lakhimpur downed Jorhat by three wickets while Hailakandi got the better of Nagaon by nine wickets.

ACA treasurer Ghanashyam Baruah and former president of JDSA Dr Tapan Dutta were present as guests in the closing function and gave away the trophies. Both player of the tournament and final went to Jeneive. Today�s final was officiated by Md Nuruddin and Utpal Bora.
