NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Nov 22 - The Lakhimpur district administration has geared up its activities for the Panchayat election to be held on December 5. The district administration has appointed 14 zonal officers for ZPCs and 64 sector officers for gaon panchayats. The district administration stated that there are 2,226 candidates in the fray, of which 1,778 are for the gaon panchayat members , 290 for gaon panchayat presidents, 192 for anchalik panchayat members and 47 for zila parishad members . Altogether seven candidates have been declared uncontested. According to reports, total voters� strength is 577008, of which 290124 are males and 286884 are females.
According to the district administration in North Lakhimpur, there are 46 very sensitive polling stations, 185 sensitive polling stations and 493 are comparatively safe. Training for the polling personal was conducted on November 18 in five different venues. The district administration also appealed to the political parties and the people to extend full cooperation for the smooth conduct of the election.
