Lakhimpur AASU burns effigies of PM, Tripura CM

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Jan 16 - The North Lakhimpur unit of the All Assam Students� Union (AASU) yesterday burnt the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb for supporting the Citizenship Amendment Bill.

The AASU�s Lakhimpur unit president Dhan Mani Dutta and secretary Pranjeet Gogoi burnt the effigies of Modi and Deb in front of the ZPC office in North Lakhimpur. They

( AASU activists) also shouted slogans and condemned Prime Minister for his support towards Hindu Bangladeshis in Assam trough the Bill and came down heavily on Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb over the firing incident during the recent 11-hour bandh called by the North East Students� Organisation (NESO) in which six persons were injured at Khumulwng, headquarters of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). The AASU members also blocked a road of North Lakhimpur.

The AASU members alleged that the BJP is trying to destroy identity of the people of the State tthrough the Bill.

�We will foil any attempt the of the saffron party,� the AASU members said.
