Lajong must win today to avoid relegation

By The Assam Tribune

MARGAO, May 27 (PTI): Debutante Shillong Lajong will go all out for a win when they meet Salgaocar tomorrow at Duler ground, Mapusa, in the last round of the I-League to avoid relegation.

The match which was scheduled to play at Tilak Ground has been shifted to Duler Ground because of the renovation work going on at Tilak Ground. For Shillong Lajong it is do or die game.

With four teams fighting for survival in the last round which ends tomorrow, Shillong Lajong who are placed 12th with 26 points needs a outright win and see Air India and Mumbai FC lose their match tomorrow.

Lajong, who has poor away record will have to pull up their socks and win against Salgacar who does not have any pressure of relegation.

Salgaocar will be looking to end the league engagement on a winning note to place themselves in the top half.

They will be missing their reliable defender Luciano Saborosa who flew back Brazil for personal reason.

But Bencharifa who steered Salgaocar from the drop is optimistic that his team will collect full points.

The pressure is on our opponent to win and we have to remain on guard to face their challenge and our boys are geared for the same, said Bencharifa.

In the other match at Nehru Stadium, Musli Power Churchill Bros will play for pride when they meet Air-India tomorrow.

ChurchillBros who frittered away their 2-0 lead and allowed East Bengal to hold them to 2-2 draw and thus made things difficult for themselves to finish second after losing the crown to Dempo.

The second spot might already be out of Churchills reach if Pune beat Dempo today who will finish one above Churchill even if they win tomorrow against Air India.
