Lack of small currency notes hits Imphal

IMPHAL, Nov 29 - Close on the heels of vandalization of two State Bank of India branches, at Manipur University campus at Canchipur and Leimakhong Army Headquarters Gate in Manipur on Monday in connection with shortage of cash in their respective banks, there is a report of confrontation between the customers and staff at SBI Chingmeirong branch in Imphal on Tuesday.

The incident took place after bank officials said that they will only accept bank deposits as there was no currencies.

A bank official in Imphal claimed they do not have adequate cash. �We�ve appraised this issue to the RBI authority,� he said. Even after the report of arriving Rs 30 crore of new Rs 500 notes here, the problems of lack of smaller denomination currency notes is still on.
