HAFLONG, Nov 5 - The Kuki community people celebrated Chavang Kut at several villages in Dima Hasao district with traditional fervour and grandeur recently.

Chavang Kut is a major festival of the Chin-Kuki community all over the world. This festival is celebrated mostly in Manipur, Assam, Tripura, Delhi, Shillong and Chin state in Myanmar.

This festival is celebrated after most of the harvest is over. The villagers show their gratitude to the Lord, who gives them strength and long life, by singing, dancing and praising Him. In this festival, folk songs are sung with traditional lances.

However, with the urbanisation, they have now been organising fashion show competitions like Mr and Miss Kut too. Apart from this, they have also been organising traditional games and sports. During the festival, traditional dances like Sagol Pheikhai, Selpang Lam, Lomlam, Jancha Lam, Vacol Lam, Pheiphit Lam, Salu Lam, Gal Lam, Suhta Lam, Molkang Lam (stick dance), Khul Lam were performed with musical instruments like goshem, sumkon, pheiphit, khong, dahpi, dahbu, selki, lhemlhei, theile etc.
