Kuki community celebrates post-harvest festival

GUWAHATI, Nov 1 - The Kuki community of Guwahati celebrated the post-harvest festival Chavang Kut at Shilpgram on Friday.

The festival commenced with a thanksgiving dedication by Rev Dr HM Songate, while Paul Hangsing was the Kutpa or chief guest.

Cultural dances and songs were performed by the participants, and the event showcased the rich tradition and culture of the Kuki tribe. The day also marked the centenary of the Anglo-Kuki War in which the tribe fought against the British in 1917-1919. A lecture on the Anglo-Kuki War was delivered by Dr N Kipgen, Associate Professor at IIT Guwahati. More than 800 people attended the event.
