GOALPARA, Aug 9 - With good coordination in its work with allied departments and agencies, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dudhnoi, the district-level organisation under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), is all set to meet the targets of the Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan (KKA), under which farmers from selected villages were given training and assistance for improving farming techniques and also raising their income.
Among the activities under the KKA, KVK Dudhnoi has been able to achieve total targets within the stipulated period under KKA which has been implemented in 25 selected villages across the district.
According to official sources, KVK Dudhnoi has been able to fulfil the targets of distribution of 5,709 soil health cards to farmers and distribution of mini kits of pulses, oilseeds and paddy to 1,925 farmers against the target of 1,428.
A total of 23,800 plants were distributed under horticulture and agro forestry at the rate of five plants per family, against a target of 12,500.
A total of 10,019 animals were covered under bovine vaccination for foot and mouth disease (FMD), while 5,669 animals were covered under the sheep and goat category for eradication of PPR � or Peste des petits ruminants (PPR), also known as goat plague.
Artificial insemination was carried out in 24 animals against the target of 100 per village. Moreover, 214 training programmes, including residential training programmes, were also carried out by the KVK.
KVK Dudhnoi coordinator in-charge Dr Hitu Choudhury said that pits for making compost are being dug in these villages and distribution of agricultural implements will be taken up shortly in each village. He expressed satisfaction over the progress of work under the KKA, and thanked the KVK and field staff for their hard work and cooperation.
