Kokrajhar ready for polls

KOKRAJHAR, April 4 - The Kokrajhar district administration has geared up for smoothly conduct of the second phase of Assembly elections in three constituencies under Kokrajhar district. The district is going to poll on April 11.

Talking to this Correspondent, SP Saikia, Superintendent of Police, Kokrajhar, revealed various steps being taken by the district police administration for smooth conduct of elections in three constituencies of Kokrajhar East, Kokrajhar West and Gossaigaon.

Saikia also assured that the police administration has taken up necessary arrangements to provide adequate security in all the booths for free and fair poll.

He added that 266 polling are identified as comparatively safe, 291 as sensitive and 199 are very sensitive. He also said that the district has been divided into 14 different zones and 88 sectors.

Presently, the district has 36 companies of security forces, including CAPF and State Armed Police, he added. Demands have already been placed to send 51 companies of additional police and paramilitary forces to the district before the polls. The SP added that a list of antisocial elements has already been prepared and they will be taken under custody soon.

He also said that preventive arrests, drive against illicit liquor, unlicensed arms have already been initiated in the district. Till date, 6,240 litters of liquor were seized and destroyed, he said, adding that 40 illegal arms were also seized in the district.
