Kokrajhar MP slams BTC for celebrating Dwijing fest

By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, Dec 26 - Kokrajhar MP Naba Kumar Sarania on Thursday flayed the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) administration for organising the Dwijing Festival on the bank of the Aie river in Chirang district at this critical juncture when people of the state are fighting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

Addressing a press meet at the Greater Bongaigaon Press Club, Sarania termed the festival as a victory festival for the BJP-led state government, and its ally, the Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF), the ruling party of the BTC.

He called upon the people of the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) and neighbouring areas to boycott the 12-day Dwijing festival, which will begin on Friday, where, according to him, only meat, wine and gambling will be enjoyed.

Sarania demanded the use of Assamese language in educational institutions and offices equally like Bodo language in BTAD.

The Lok Sabha MP said the state cabinet decision to form autonomous councils for some ethnic groups was a bid to weaken the movement against the CAA by creating division among them.
