GUWAHATI, Aug 19 - The UN Association-Assam today condoled the death of former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan who passed away yesterday, a press release stated.
In a condolence message sent to the UN and Annan�s bereaved family, UNA-Assam president Biraj Sarma said, �Kofi Annan had contributed a lot in promoting peace and security in the world.�
Kofi Annan served two terms as Secretary General from January 1, 1997, to December 31, 2006. He and the UN were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001.
