KNP home guards on agitation path

By Correspondent

KOHORA, March 25 Sensation prevails over the reported non-cooperation move by all the 151 home guards deployed in Kaziranga National Park for the anti-poaching operation, after these guards assembled in front of the offices of the Director and DFO of the Kaziranga National Park on Wednesday in Bokakhat and protested over non-payment of their salaries for the last four months.

Sources in the offices of Kaziranga National Park said that in spite of their repeated requests to the Assam Government to release the payments due to the home guards along with their daily ration, no steps had been taken till date and what is more worrying is that these guards who are basically deployed to counter the interstate poachers gang active in Kaziranga have already threatened to surrender their official arms and quit their services from Kaziranga . If that happens then it will be very difficult for the authority of Kaziranga National Park to continue their operation against the poachers.

Sources said that the file relating to the payment of the home guards is still not being cleared by the concerned department in Dispur. With Assembly election on one side, concerned officials and clerical staff are not at all serious over the problem faced by the home guards.
