KMSS takes out torchlight rally

GUWAHATI, May 14 � Members of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) today took out torchlight processions all over the State in protest against the police atrocities on the anti-mega dam protestors at Ghagornagar in Lakhimpur district on May 11.

The members of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad, Takam Mishing Poring Kebang, All Tai Ahom Students� Union, All Assam Deuri Students� Union, Sonowal Kachari Jatiya Parishad, Chutiya Jati Chatra Santha, Anuchuchita Jati Chatra Santha also took part in the processions. It needs mention here that the KMSS is running the anti-mega dam stir in association with all these organisations.

The police arrested 14 protestors, physically tortured them and dismantled their camp that night. Police also arrested five office-bearers of the KMSS in Dhemaji and two office-bearers of the Samiti today, the KMSS said in a statement.

The police have so far arrested 21 anti-mega dam protestors and sent them to jail and have wounded several others.

The members of the KMSs along with the members of the above organisations, will stage sit-in demonstrations all over the State on May 16 in protest against the police action against the anti-mega dam agitationists, said the KMSS in its statement.
