KMSS stages protest in State

DIBRUGARH, June 27 � The district unit of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Sammittee (KMSS) today staged protest march from old bus station to Sadar Police station here for arresting their leader Akhil Gogoi in Guwahati in connection with the recent Dispur violence.

The protestors were proceeding towards the office of the Deputy Commissioner but were prevented near the police station. The KMSS members raised anti-government slogans and demanded unconditional release of their leader, stating that Akhil Gogoi was arrested on fabricated grounds.

Executive Magistrate Sarangapani Sharma listened to the agitators and assured them that he would communicate with the higher authorities regarding their grievances.

KOHORA Correspondent adds : Members of Krishak Mukhti Sangram Samiti ( KMSS) today held dharna for about two hours at Kohora Charali in protest against the arrest of its leader Akhil Gogoi and price rise of the essential items.

Later, police arrested more than 150 protesters as a precautionary measures and released all of them by 3 pm. No untoward incident was reported during the dharna.

Nagaon Correspondent adds : As a part of jail bhoro agitation by KMSS today in protest against the arrest of its leader Akhil Gogoi more then 200 KMSS activists were detained by police in Nagaon today including its State president Rajib Bora . Police also arrested 100 activists in Kampur and 500 others in Kaki area of Nagaon district

Mulan Laskar working president of KMSS while talking with this correspondent stated that the agitation was successful in different parts of the State including Barak Valley. Their agitation will continue till the release of Akhil Gogoi , Laskar added.

Meanwhile, an unidentified male body was found at Nambar Nepalikhuti village under Kathiatali police station this morning. Villagers after spotting him informed the local police.

HOWRAGHAT Correspondent adds: The Karbi Anglong district unit of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), today protested the arrest of farmer leader Akhil Gogoi. The activists of the KMSS that joined from different places of the hill district assembled at Bakaliaghat Police station taking banners and placards in their hands and shouted slogans against the State Government and the police.

The agitators were detained by the police and later they were released at 5 pm by district magistrate Diphu.
