By Correspondent

TEZPUR, Oct 13 Coming down heavily on the Congress-led State government for not being able to tackle rampant corruption in every departments of the State and demanding land-patta to the landless people of the State, Krishak Mukti Sangram samittee (KMSS) chief Akhil Gogoi today said that despite crores of rupees sanctioned for developmental works in various departments of the State, proper development is a far cry for the people of the State.

The farmer leader was addressing a huge rally organized here at Jaimaoti Pathar, in protest against the governments alleged failure to deal with the on-going rampant corruption and demanding land patta to the landless people of the State.

Corruption has become a legalized activity in the State due to the attitude of becoming rich by siphoning off government funds by politicians, and bureaucrats, he said in his speech. He also urged the government to provide land patta to the landless people of the State.

Referring to the Land Rights Act, Gogoi further said that in no Forest Act of India, it is written that people living in the hills and forests could get rights over land. We the KMSS have been fighting for providing land patta to the indigenous people for years, but we are not given any attention. If this continues, the Tarun Gogoi-led government will get a good lesson in the days to come, he warned.
